This John Grey & Sons Autocrat 14x6.5" snare drum is a lovely looking snare!
It has had some alterations over the years, and has been re-finished in this lovely faded green marble finish. When the snare arrived with me, someone had put the snare together with the shell upside-down. I have swapped everything so it is now the correct way around whilst making as few additional holes as possible.
The shell is most likely 3-ply Birch with Beech re-rings, however the interior has been painted with a white sealing paint.
The snare plays very nicely, and has a lightly used Remo Ambassador Coated batter head and used Yamaha Snare side head. The badge, lugs, internal dampener and batter side slotted tension rods look to be all original. The hoops are later Premier die-cast hoops, bottom tension rods are slotted Premier ones, and the strainer and butt end are later replacements (much more reliable than the original one).
